Seen weed ….

Seaweed, it’s surprising to read from this Wikipedia article how common it really is in food.

This photo was taken early last year in Youghal, it was both mild and somewhat cold with very few people around that day. In strong contrast to the exodus-like movement it usually attracts in the better days of the summer.

Can produce iodine toxicity if large amounts are consumed. Yum.

Unnamed alley near the Bus Station

This was taken near the Bus Station in Parnell Place, shortly passed Mahers Outdoor Shop. Access is blocked by an old rusty gate but it doesn’t obscure the view that much. This is one of those things I like about Cork City though, despite the contemporary appearance of some parts of the city they’re also likely to feature nooks and crannies from a different era altogether.

Doesn't look like anyone set foot here for at least 100 years

Sprout

This was taken near the new footpath behind the Kingsley Hotel out by Lee Fields and that tall object in the background is the chimney from the Lee Road Waterworks. I think that’s Japanese Knot Weed in the foreground, obviously I have no clue.

Somebody in Passage West is not going to like this …

I saw something odd protruding from the water near Passage West during a Cobh to Cork City trek. I’ve been on the odd few boating trips myself but something tells me that this is not how you moor a boat.

HDR of Washington Street

Another HDR photo that turned out better than I thought. This was taken in Cork City, where Washington Street meets Grand Parade. It may look quiet on the daytime but one should see what it’s like 2 am on a Saturday night to really notice the difference.

Sitting out at the Lee Fields

Approximately 20 minutes walk from the City Centre in the direction of Ballincollig, the Lee Fields is a 2km stretch of public property that follows alongside the river. It’s a popular place amongst runners, amateur fishermen, kayakers, swimmers, dog walkers and ice skaters .

Duckling in Fitzgeralds Park

Fitzgeralds Park situated near Mardyke Road, is the largest park in Cork City. The ducklings there can be incredibly photogenic creatures, like most Facebook users, they always strike poses similar to carefully angled profile pictures and enjoy tweeting about it afterwards. Pun intended.

HDR of Pope’s Quay Court from the foot bridge

It’s been only a few days since the last post that featured Pope’s Quay, now here’s another one. I was originally going to use it a test shot for some of the tone mapping settings of HDR software I was dipping my feet into ( Luminance HDR ) but what I ended up with something that almost resembles a painting. That’s the interesting thing about tone mapping with HDR images, you can never expect what you’re going to get.
