We used to own a cow similar to this one back home in Limerick, don’t quite remember what breed it was, glancing at the Wikipedia on various breeds of cattle produced an exhaustive list of silly names for these wonderful milk producers. As a child I was more fond of the milk our cow produced than the cow itself, this may have possibly due to the fact that she took every opportunity to chase me off the field. This also explains why I eat beef out of spite. Still not the worst type of animal to have when growing up though, that place is reserved for the geese. But I digress, so here is a photo of a German cow:
The following photo was taken near Quiddelbach in Cologne ( Germany ) in August 2010, we had done a 25 kilometre trek through Eifel and even walked under a part of the Nurburgring racing track. I’ve been to Germany plenty of times and to be honest I haven’t seen that much of it. I haven’t been to Berlin either. But then again neither have my German cousins. Eifel is a really pretty region in Cologne, the countryside is replete with hills with tiny ( for German standards ) farming villages tucked in between them with the surrounding landscape populated by a legion of red cows and trees. Sounds familiar, but unlike here in Ireland, pubs ( or Gasthoffs ) in villages are quite sparse and only open for a very short period of time. A deterrent for the Irish culchie.
